Dec. 4, 2023 -- Chinese law experts and scholars gathered in Beijing for a seminar commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, renowned as one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges. Experts highlighted the significance of promoting the spirit of the Declaration, particularly in the face of new challenges arising from current regional conflicts. They also shared their perspectives on China's progress in human rights affairs, encompassing topics such as poverty alleviation, gender equality, and juvenile protection.

 

BAIMA CHILIN President China Society for Human Rights Studies "Respecting and protecting human rights are enshrined in China's Constitution. The country considers survival and development as the basic human rights. It has lifted nearly 100 million people out of extreme poverty. It has also established the world's largest education system, social security system and health care system."

 

MA HUAIDE President China University of Political Science and Law "We should pay more attention to the potential human rights crises stemming from regional conflicts, resulting in displacement, hunger and poverty. The right to life, security and liberty are all under great threat in these regions. I think we should further advance the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights amidst the current international uncertainties."
