China opposes and lodges solemn representations over the additional tariffs on some Chinese goods by the United States, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Monday.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) recently announced tariff increases under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 for imports from China of certain tungsten products, wafers, and polysilicon.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has already ruled that the Section 301 tariffs are in violation of WTO regulations, the ministry said in a statement, adding that it will take resolute measures to safeguard its own rights and interests.

The tariff measures taken by the U.S. will not solve its trade deficit, while they will harm U.S. consumers' interests and severely wreak havoc on international economic order and the security and stability of global industrial chains and supply chains.

"The U.S. should immediately correct its wrongdoing and remove the additional tariffs imposed on China," the ministry urged.
