Sept. 27, 2024 -- Being the guest speaker, Christoph Stückelberger, a Swiss globethicist, honorary president and founder of Globethics, gave a lecture on Globalance with Human Rights at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) on Sept. 21, 2024.

The lecture was sponsored by the Institute for Human Rights at the CUPL and the "Innovation Panel on the Construction of China's Human Rights Discourse and Theoretical System in the New Era" of the CUPL. Among the commentators were Sun Shiyan, research fellow of the Institute of International Law and deputy director of the Center for Human Rights Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Yao Kun, deputy director and research fellow of the Institute of World Political Studies of China at the Institute of Contemporary International Relations and Yang Bochao, associate professor of the Institute for Human Right of the CUPL.

Professor Stückelberger first expressed his views on the various existing "-isms" and the global polarization. Then he introduced his own understanding of 'Globalance', including the values and virtues behind it. He said that what really mattered was how to interpret universal values and virtues in different continents or nations and how to strike a balance between them. He also mentioned the meaning of globalance to human rights, stressing three generations of human rights as a whole.

Three professors commented Professor Stückelberger's lecture afterwards. Professor Sun said everyone needed to do their part to prevent the spread of polarization. Professor Yao analyzed increasing competitions between world powers and the escalation of political conflicts. Professor Yang said that the interpretation of relations between different values under the globalance theory was revelatory. Globalance was important not only to international politics but also to international human rights law.

The discussion and Q&A session were moderated by Wu Wenyang, lecturer of the Institute for Human Right at the CUPL. Among attendees were graduates and PhD students from the CUPL, Peking University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Minzu University of China.
