CSHRS'VP Delivers a Keynote Speech at the 4th Samarkand Forum on Human Rights

June 18, 2024 -- Lu Guangjin, vice president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) and professor of the Human Rights Research Center of Jilin University, was invited to attend the 4th Samarkand Forum on Human Rights held from June 13 to 14 and delivered a keynote speech via video link.
 
The forum, themed "Environmental Challenges: Ensuring Sustainable Solutions for the Future of Human Rights in a Changing World", was organized by the National Centre for Human Rights of Uzbekistan. 
 
For many years, China has insisted that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" and a sound eco-environment is the most inclusive benefit to people's wellbeing, said Lu in his keynote speech.
 
China has also insisted that climate change is a challenge for all of humanity. The sustainable development of the future of the planet depend on tackling it successfully, he added.
 
Lu stressed that it has been clearly stated at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2022 that Chinese modernization is characterized by harmonious coexistence between man and nature. China has actively implemented the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and promoted the conclusion and entry into force of the Paris Agreement with a responsible spirit.
 
In terms of policy planning and implementation, China has continued to improve the institutional mechanisms and practical plans for green development. China has actively formulated and implemented a series of strategies, regulations, policies, standards and actions to address climate change, promoting continuous progress in China's practices, said Lu.
 
China has the highest growth in forest coverage and the largest area of man-made forests. China has achieved continuous and steady progress in building up the carbon sink capacity of ecosystems. China has continuously achieved remarkable results in the use of renewable energy.
