March 4, 2020 -- A photo exhibition titled “Home: A Glimpse of Life of People from Various Ethnic Groups in Xinjiang” opened at Palais des Nations in Geneva on Monday.

 

Living a happy life is the primary human right, and no one cares more about Chinese people than the Chinese government. I believe this exhibition will help you know a real Xinjiang, said Chen Xu, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, at the opening ceremony.

 

Xinjiang is experiencing the most stable and fast-developing period in its history. A total of 645,000 impoverished people got rid of poverty in Xinjiang last year, and Xinjiang will lift all poor people in rural areas out of poverty by the end of this year, Chen said.

 

Xinjiang's remarkable achievements cannot be achieved without a secure and stable environment, and there has been no terrorist attack in Xinjiang for more than three years, stressed Chen.

 

China has received more than 1,000 foreign diplomats, officials from international organizations, journalists and religious figures to Xinjiang, and has invited UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet to visit China this year, said Chen.

 

We hope this exhibition could serve as a window to a beautiful, open, confident and richly-endowed Xinjiang with stability, solidarity and harmony, said Tang Xianwen, deputy secretary general of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, at the opening ceremony.
