Feb. 19, 2019 -- China has made remarkable progress in promoting digital reading for the visually impaired and providing a variety of public services for them, according to the China Disabled Persons’ Federation.
In recent years, China Braille Press has been pushing forward the building of the Five Projects of Publication and Communication, which includes books for the blind, audio books, big-character books, accessible films and digital publications. Till now, 1,000 books for the blind and 200 big-character books are published annually, and 1,000-period multimedia books for the blind, 1,250-hour audio materials and nearly 100 accessible films are produced each year, greatly enriching the reading materials for visually impaired readers.
China Braille Press, together with 400 public libraries, launched the Digital Reading Promotion Project to promote nationwide reading, lending 200,000 electronic devices to the visually impaired for free. With the collaboration of 100 education institutes for the blind, China Braille Press has also lent for free 1,000 Braille computers and Braille electronic displays to visually impaired students.
