BEIJING, Dec. 27, 2018 -- China's procuratorates have instituted 89,523 public interest litigation cases and filed 2,560 such cases to courts from January to November this year, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Most of the cases involved issues of environment protection, resource conservation and food and drug safety, said a document released at a press conference held by the SPP Tuesday. The document said that over 96 percent of the cases have been handled through pre-litigation procedures and in over 94 percent of such cases, the administrative agencies involved corrected their misconduct during the pre-litigation proceedings. By handling public interest litigation cases, procuratorates at all levels nationwide have helped save direct economic losses worth over 23.9 billion yuan (3.4 billion U.S. dollars), the document said. |
