On Feb. 2, China has lifted over 700 million Chinese people out of poverty since the reform and opening up policy was adopted. 60,000 poverty-stricken people have got rid of poverty since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), reducing the poverty rate from 10.2 percent to lower than 4 percent. And the 19th CPC National Congress set out the goal of eradicating poverty in rural areas by 2020.

The transportation infrastructure in China’s poor areas has been greatly improved in the past five years. China will build asphalt roads for qualified counties, towns and villages by the end of 2019 and to connect all poverty-stricken areas with national main expressways by 2020, according to the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Re-public of China (MOT).
 
We should improve the transportation infrastructure across the country in the pro-cess of building a well-off society, said Li Xiaopeng, minister of the MOT on a press conference on Feb. 7.

China’s basic medical insurance now covers 1.35 billion people, according to the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
