June 6, 2018 -- This year marks the 10th anniversary of the National Programme for Intellectual Property Rights (NPIPR), which was issued by China’s State Council on June 5, 2008, for the purpose of improving China’s capacity to create, utilize, protect and administer IPR, making China an innovative country and attaining the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects.
Francis Gurry, director-general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), applauds China’s remarkable achievements in IPR protection, and its continuous efforts to deepen international cooperation and exchange.
“The progress of building the IPR system in China is marvelous. China emphasizes the quality of patents, including artificial intelligence, robotic technology and renewable energy technology, which is very important. And we can see how China’s technology is influencing the world these years,” said Gurry.
Gurry said that China has combined theory with practice by setting intellectual property courts and strengthening IPR research, and increased IPR awareness among enterprises and the public.
China has implemented most of the treaties made by the WIPO and made great contributions to the commitment of the international system, said Gurry.
The issue of the NPIPR shows China will unswervingly encourage innovation and create a knowledge-based economy. We hope China will help the WIPO build an effective and balanced international system of the IPR, said Gurry.
