BEIJING, May 29, 2018 -- Chinese police handled 16,000 cases of drunk driving at night across the country during a three-day campaign running from May 25 to May 27.
The campaign was launched by the traffic management bureau of China's Ministry of Public Security due to increased drunk driving accidents during summer.
Local police organs deployed over 300,000 officers and more than 2.2 million vehicles to locate drunk and drug-taking drivers at night.
During the three days, the number of traffic accidents and the death toll dropped significantly, with no deaths from alcohol or drug-related accidents, according to official data.
Police also posted 689 live-streams of them handling traffic violations, which have received over 10 million views.
