In pics: Experts share views on China’s human rights discourse in new era

April 18,2018--Lu Zhi’an, executive deputy director and associate professor at the Human Rights Research Center of Fudan University, says setting global human rights agenda could not only draw more attention of the international community to the development of China’s human rights cause, but also help China to make appropriate human rights policies.
 
April 18,2018--A seminar on the creation of China's human rights discourse in the new era was held Thursday in Changsha, capital city of Hunan province. Experts expressed their views on China's human rights discourse in the new era and global human rights governance at the seminar.
 
The seminar was co-sponsored by China Society for Human Rights Studies and the Publicity Department of Hunan Province, and organized by the Human Rights Research Center and the Law School of Central of South University.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Professor Chen Youwu, vice director of the Human Rights Institute, Guangzhou University,said it is the main duty of the State to protect human rights.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Li Erping, director of the Human Rights Research Center and professor with the School of Economics and Management, Kunming University of Science and Technology, said countries with different national conditions should adopt different ways to promote human rights as the world is diversified.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Wang Jinyuan, professor at the Law School of Southeast University, said it is hard for countries with different development stages to adopt a unified standard for human rights protection. If there is no equal dialogue and consultation among these countries, human rights may be used as a weapon by some countries to suppress other countries.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Zhao Jianwen, director and research fellow of the Teaching and Research Office of International Human Rights Law, International Law Institute, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, gave a review of China’s voices on human rights at the UN in different historical periods.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Professor He Zhipeng, executive director of the Human Rights Education and Research Center, Jilin University, said we should neither blindly follow western countries’ human rights theory nor overemphasize the differences between China and the west in building China`s human rights discourse in the new era. We can take a middle road instead.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Liu Huawen,executive director and research fellow of the Human Rights Center, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said China should contribute its wisdom to global human rights governance while promoting domestic human rights.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Sun Pinghua, professor at the China University of Political Science and Law, shared his views on the creation of China`s human rights discourse in the new era to make it fit China’s international standing.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Zhang Sisi, third secretary of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Ministry of Foreign affairs, introduced China’s human rights diplomacy after the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Wang Xiumei, professor at the School of International Law, Northwest University of Politics and Law, introduced the development of China’s business and human rights. She said China’s active participation in formulating standards of business and human rights has laid the foundation for a stronger discourse power.

 

April 18, 2018 -- Li Chunlin, professor at the Law School of Fuzhou University, said we should figure out the role of the right to development in building a community with a shared future for mankind.
