Chinese leaders commemorate Deng Xiaoping's birth anniversary

Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed a symposium on Wednesday morning to mark the upcoming 110th anniversary of the birth of late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, which falls on Friday.

Senior leaders Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Wang Qishan and Zhang Gaoli attended the symposium.

6,000 cadres, 26 bln yuan in aid of Tibet over 20 years

In the past 20 years, China has sent close to 6,000 cadres and technical professionals, and earmarked 26 billion yuan (about 4.2 billion U.S. dollars) to help with development of the southwestern autonomous region of Tibet, local officials said at a press conference Sunday.

According to Wang Fengchao, deputy head of the Organization Department of the Tibet regional committee of the Communist Party of China, since 1994 when the cadres aid program was launched, seven batches of talents from 18 provincial regions were sent to 74 counties and cities of the southwest region, working in different areas including economy, technology, education, medical science, etc.

Spokesman calls for respect for HK's political system

A Chinese mainland spokesman on Tuesday called on parties in Taiwan to respect Hong Kong's development of political system and the achievements of the "one country, two systems" policy.

Ma Xiaoguang of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office made the remarks when he was asked to comment on reactions in Taiwan to the Aug. 31 decision of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee on Hong Kong's electoral system.

Xi urges anti-Japanese aggression spirit in future development

President Xi Jinping called for the Chinese people to carry on the national spirit of the Anti-Japanese War as the country is expecting many "great battles" in its future development.

China cultivated the great national spirit of Anti-Japanese War during the war against Japanese aggression, said Xi, addressing a symposium held to mark the 69th anniversary of victory in Anti-Japanese War.

Nanjing seminar marks anniversary of Japan's surrender

More than 30 scholars and experts took part in a seminar in Nanjing on Tuesday to mark a historical moment in the World Anti-fascist War.

On the same day 69 years ago, Japan's surrender to China took place in Nanjing. It is another significant event after Sept. 2 when Japan surrendered to the entire Allied Forces aboard the USS Missouri battleship.

Kunming terrorist attack suspects on trial

Four people suspected of a terrorist attack at a railway station in Kunming early this year went on trial on Friday in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The Kunming Municipal Intermediate People's Court has opened a public trial, Xinhua learned from the Supreme People's Court.

China to mark trigger incident of Japanese invasion

Northeast China's Liaoning Province will hold a grand ceremony on Sept. 18 to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the "9.18 Incident," or "Mukden Incident," which marks the beginning of the 14-year war against Japanese aggression.

Shenyang, the Liaoning capital city where the incident occurred in 1931, will sound warning sirens and ring bells along with another 14 cities to remind people of the war that lasted from 1931 to 1945, according to a statement from the city government.

CPC branches key to Xinjiang stability: Xi

Chinese President Xi Jinping has written to the authorities and citizens of a successful village in Xinjiang, underlining the role of local Party branches in maintaining stability and prosperity in the terrorism-hit northwestern region.

Xi's letter, publicized on Tuesday, was addressed to Sawuer Menlik, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) branch of Daxi Village, and all its residents.

The Seventh Beijing Forum on Human Rights opens, focuses on the Chinese dream and human rights development

Co-held by China Society for Human Rights Studies and China Foundation for Human Rights Development, the Seventh Beijing Forum on Human Rights opens in Beijing on September 17. The theme of the forum is the Chinese Dream: New Progress in China’s Human Rights. More than one hundred participants, including senior advisers from UN, experts and scholars and representatives of ambassadors in China attended the forum.

Tibetan culture on display in Strasbourg

Strasbourg has been playing host to a series of events designed to showcase Tibetan culture and society.

Running from Sept. 24 to Oct. 2, the Chinese consulate in Strasbourg organized conferences and cultural events with the aim of helping people in the French city understand more about this vast region of southwest China.

China celebrates 65th anniversary

President Xi Jinping said Tuesday China will continue to give priority to development, adhere to reform and innovation and stay committed to the path of peaceful development.

Xi made the remarks when addressing a reception marking the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Xi called for enhanced unity within the Communist Party of China (CPC), adding that the CPC should reinforce cooperation with other parties and maintain the bond with the people.

1 dead, 324 wounded in southwest China earthquake

One person died and 324 others were injured after a 6.6-magnitude quake jolted southwest China's Yunnan Province Tuesday night, according to local government.

The casualties were reported mainly from Jinggu County, where the epicenter was monitored.

Human Rights Model Countries” need to reflect on themselves: Sound of Chinese Representatives

Chinese representatives spoke on general debate of the 27thsession of Human Rights Council that China insisted on handling with human rights issues, including divergences on human rights, by constructive talks and cooperation. Divergences are normal among the different countries because of the different histories, cultural backgrounds, and developing road and developing period. However, we need to respect each other and eliminate divergences through equal talks. But to politicize human rights issues, abuse others in their names, press them publically or adopt double standards only tends to destroy the atmosphere of Human Rights Council and cooperation on human rights. Human rights Council shall concentrate on technical assistance and ability construction and hold impartial and sincere dialogues on countries’ human rights issues through their own examination systems.

Panel to consider Beijing transport fare hike

The Beijing government has organized a panel discussion for later this month to consider public transport fare hikes that would see the cost of subway tickets more than double.

Twenty-five people, including officials, industrial representatives, legislators, political advisors and members of the public, have been selected for the hearing on October 28, the government announced on Monday.
