China to push urbanization reform

China will enhance reforms in the management of population data, land, funding guarantees, housing and environmental protection to boost the urbanization process, according to a senior official from the country's top economic planner.

Xu Shaoshi, minister in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said Saturday that the rapid urbanization process in China has created problems, such as a huge population transfer from rural to urban areas and low efficiency in urban land use.

The NDRC will push forward reforms in the management systems for population, land, capital, housing and ecology to upgrade the urbanization path.

President Xi vows intense pressure on terrorism

Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged to resolutely crack down on terrorism and secessionism with high intensity to safeguard national security.

Xi made the remarks on Friday at the 14th group study session on national security and social stability by the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Calling terrorism the common enemy of the people, Xi urged improving counter-terrorism systems and abilities and the public to build a "wall of bronze and iron" to fight against terrorism.

Three dead, 79 injured in Xinjiang railway station terrorist attack

Three people were confirmed dead and 79 others were injured in a violent terrorist attack at a railway station in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Wednesday evening.

Four people were seriously injured but in stable condition, said the publicity department of the regional committee of the Communist Party of China.

The 21st China-UK Human Rights Dialogue took place in London

From 19 to 20 ,May 2014 , the special representative of the Ministry of foreign affairs of China of human rights affairs Liu hua and the director of the Asia and Pacific Division of the Ministry of foreign affairs of British Li feng co-chaired the 21st Human Rights Dialogue in London. During the conference, they met with the Permanent Under-Secretary of the Ministry of foreign affairs of British Fred. Both countries dispatched delegates from Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Ethnic Affairs, Religious Affairs, Women's Affairs and the Persons with Disabilities to attend the meeting.

China issues white paper on human rights

The Chinese government on Monday released a white paper detailing the progress made in human rights in 2013, highlighting enhanced social fairness, justice and freedom of speech.

"China's progress in its human rights undertaking is there for everybody to see, and every unbiased and reasonable observer can draw a fair conclusion," said the white paper, published by the State Council Information Office under the title "Progress in China's Human Rights in 2013."

The white paper, elaborating the government's achievements in improving people's right to development, said "China's development provides all Chinese people with the opportunities to develop themselves, serve society, make successes in their life and realize their dreams."

Transparency urged in college students enrollment

The Ministry of Education urged transparency and more supervision in college students enrollment, upon the completion of China's annual national college entrance exam on Sunday.

The exam, known as the "gaokao", takes place on June 7 and 8 this year in most areas, attracting nearly 9.4 million participants. Gaokao is viewed by many Chinese as one of the most important ways to change their fate.

Chinese jurist Wang Xigen participates in the criteria making of right to development in the United Nations

At the invitation of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Wuhan University (WHU) professor Wang Xigen participated in the draft of international standards of the right to development.

As early as 1986, in order to protect the interests of the developing countries and optimize the structure of global governance, the United Nations has formally adopted the "Declaration on the right to Development". However, over these years, there are still various differences on how to define the legal responsibilities and obligations in the process of the implementation of the right to development between the developing countries and the developed countries. The special meeting held by the UN is aimed at forming the international standards of the right to development. Each member state of the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations, the staff of the United Nations of institute of Development issues and the delegates of international organizations attended the meeting.

China issues white paper on policy in Hong Kong

The Chinese central government on Tuesday published a white paper detailing the "one country, two systems" practice in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), stressing the policy as a basic state policy despite new circumstances.
