Ana Pirtskhalava and Samuel Muyizzi, vice presidents of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), visited the China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) and talked to Chinese experts on Jan. 22, 2014.

 

Zhang Xiaoling, CSHRS member and director of the Human Rights Research Center of the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Zhang Yun, director of the History Institute of the China Tibetology Research Center, discussed human rights issues with Pirtskhalava and Muyizzi, including gender equality and the political rights of women, rights of homosexuals, policies on ethnic minorities, labor rights, environmental protection. They also discussed the Beijing Forum on Human Rights and functions of CSHRS.

 

Pirtskhalava and Muyizzi thanked CSHRS for receiving them, saying that they better understood China's views on human rights and the development of human rights in China, especially in Tibet. They also expressed their desire to attend the Beijing Forum on Human Rights this year.

 

Founded in 1897, IUSY is a major force in the international youth movement and holds United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) special consultative status. Its head office is located in Vienna, Austria. It has 150 member organizations around the world.
