The 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council concluded in Geneva recently. The China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) and the China Association for NGO Cooperation attended the session by means of submitting written speeches, speaking via video links and holding multiple sideline meetings to introduced China’s human rights progress, poverty reduction experience as well as the achievements in the protection of ethnic cultures in northwest China’s Xinjiang. Poverty elimination is manifests the protection of the right to development. China’s representatives said that China has created a poverty reduction miracle which has lasted the longest span of time and benefited the largest number of poverty-stricken people in the history of humankind. A Chinese envoy on Tuesday called for the effective reduction and eradication of poverty so as to better facilitate the promotion and protection of human rights, when delivering a statement on behalf of a cross-regional group of states at the ongoing 45th session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council. Human rights and anti-terrorism experts from China and Cameroon on Thursday warned about the challenge of anti-terrorism on social media amid the COVID-19 pandemic and lack of world leadership. Ideas and experiences regarding counter-terrorism, de-radicalization, and human rights protection were exchanged in an online seminar, which was jointly sponsored by the permanent mission of China and Cameroon to the UN Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland. Unilateral coercive measures could impact nearly all human rights, notably in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, a UN expert said Tuesday at the on-going 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council. A webinar was held on Sep.24th to give a true picture of the population growth and human rights protection in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and rebut overseas smears against the region’s population policies.Since the foundation of the PRC, Xinjiang has seen steadily improved living standards and better human rights protection. From 1978 to 2018, the total population in Xinjiang increased from 12.33 million to 24.86 million. The number of students at schools has risen from 10,200 to 398,700. The mortality rate has dropped substantially from 20.82‰ to 4.56‰. Health conditions of all ethnic groups in the autonomous region have been noticeably enhanced.[more..]
