Side event on right to development held in Geneva
A side event titled “Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind and the Realization of the Right to Development” was held during the 36th UN Human Rights Council Session in Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, Sept. 13, 2017. 
 
Human rights experts and about 50 representatives from the United Nations, governments, Non-Governmental Organizations and the press attended the event. 
 
Qi Yanping, Standing Director of the China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) and Director of the Human Rights Research Center of Shandong University, said that new type international relations of cooperation and win-win should be built on the basis of the equal right to development to promote global human rights.
 
“In building a community with a shared future for mankind, we need to learn from all civilizations around the world, especially the wisdom of developing countries,” said Tom Zwart, Director of the Cross Cultural Human Rights Centre of the Free University of Amsterdam. 
 
“The developing countries should be the main participants in global governance and the right to development they proposed deserves more attention,” he added.
 
The side event was co-sponsored by the CSHRS and the Cross Cultural Human Rights Centre of the Free University of Amsterdam.
