The 2019 South-South Human Rights Forum opens in Beijing on Tuesday. Under the theme—“diversity of civilizations and global development of human rights,” the forum is hosted by the State Council Information Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ana Karina ZELEDON LEPIZ said that even though poverty is a global reality, it can be extinguished. In 2017, Costa Rica National Ombuds Institution launched the Poverty and Exclusion Programme. Through this Programme, we aim to promote change in public policies and institutions, with a human rights perspective, to make our country change its strategies in order to accomplish the SDG 1.

At the Costa Rican National Ombuds Institution, we aim to get all of our recommendations fulfilled by Government authorities and to boost the legal changes that me be needed to move the country towards poverty eradication. But that is not all. We expect to promote, through the Poverty and Exclusion Programme, better public institutions and governance to stimulate the birth microenterprises and job options for people in poverty: sustainable options to make poverty disappear and leave no one behind.
