China's notions gaining greater int'l recognition
March 23,2017   By:Xinhua
BEIJING, March 23, 2017 -- A UN Security Council resolution on Friday incorporated for the first time China's notion of building a community of shared future for mankind, a latest of China's ideas to be accepted by the international community.

The resolution to renew the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan for one year stressed security, stability and development in Afghanistan and the region, and creating a community of shared future for mankind.

The notion, which stresses that countries should promote common development and establish more equitable and balanced development partnerships, was first proposed in a report by the Communist Party of China in November 2012.

Over the years that followed, Chinese President Xi Jinping has reiterated and expounded the notion on various occasions at home and abroad.

The inclusion of the notion in the UN Security Council resolution showed that it has become a global consensus, said Wang Yiwei, an international relations professor with Renmin University of China.

The Friday resolution was not the first time that the notion of a community of shared future for mankind had been incorporated into a UN document.

In February, the 55th UN Commission for Social Development approved a resolution, calling for more support to Africa's economic and social development by embracing the spirit of building "a human community with shared destiny."

"As the most authoritative, representative and universal international organization, the UN recognized the notion, meaning it is the one needed for human development," said Ruan Zongze, a senior research fellow with the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS).

On Jan. 18 at the UN Office in Geneva, Switzerland, President Xi delivered a speech, saying "China is ready to work with all the other UN member states as well as international organizations and agencies to advance the great cause of building a community of shared future for mankind."

Following Xi's speech, both UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN General Assembly President Peter Thomson said the UN was willing to join China in seeking such a goal.

Chen Xulong, a senior research fellow with the CIIS, said the notion of building a community of shared future for mankind is in line with the UN's goals, which has naturally fostered China-UN cooperation.
