July 3, 2009 The first plenary meeting of the NPC Standing Committee's enforcement and inspection group for trade union law was held in the Great Hall of the People on July 3rd. Wu Bangguo, Member of the Standing Committee of the CCCPC Political Bureau and chairman of NPC Standing Committee, made important instructions, emphasizing that trade unions should practically play important roles in protecting workers' legal rights and stabilizing the work relations. A Severe violent riot broke out in the city of Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on July 5th. At 20:00 p.m., the rioters take a series of crazy actions such as assault, vandalism, looting and arson wildly in Urumqi. Until 23:30 p.m., more than one hundred innocent citizens and one armed policeman were killed, over 1000 people injured. Besides, many vehicles are smashed and lots of shops are burned. This is undoubtedly a premeditated violent event instigated by foreign activists and organized and carried out by domestic relevant rioters. |
