Marking its 20th anniversary, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation held a meeting in Beijing. Jia Qinglin, chairman of CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), delivered a speech at the meeting. 20 people were rewarded in the meeting for their contribution to the cause of poverty alleviation.

The Second World Buddhist Forum was wrapped up on April 1 in Taipei with messages of hope from leading Buddhist figures. More than 1,000 eminent monks, scholars and figures from around 50 countries and regions attended the closing ceremony.

The forum, which opened on March 28 in the east China city of Wuxi, was jointly organized by the Buddhist Association of China, the Buddha's Light International Association, the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, and the China Religious Culture Communication Association, with the theme, "A harmonious world, a synergy of condition."

The forum was concluded with a declaration calling for the education of monks and cultivation of Buddhist talents, stronger interaction between Buddhism and higher education and the spreading of the charitable and benevolent thoughts of Buddhism to commerce.

The General Office of the State Council released accurate and timely government information to the public through multiple channels in 2008, according a report released March 31 on the Chinese government's official website.

The information was released to the public through www.gov.cn, bulletins of the State Council and major central media, the report said.

Premier Wen Jiabao hosted an executive meeting of the State Council. The meeting determined to start safety campaign among primary schools and middle schools at nationwide.

Supreme People's Court and China Law Society held a conference at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to mark the 20th anniversary of issuing Administrative Procedure Law. Wang Shengjun, president of Supreme People's Court, delivered a speech at the conference.
